Wireless Network advice required.

Just bought a Dimension 8400 and an Inspiron 510M. Dimension has a Truemobile 1300 Wireless USB Adaptor and the Inspiron has a Wireless 1350 802.11 b/g mini PCI card.

What do I now need to complete my wireless network and can anyone recommend and specific brands?

What do you consider a complete wireless network?  To you want to simply share files between the two computers?  Do you want to share files plus share an internet connection?  If you want to share an internet connection, is it a cable, dsl, or dialup connection.  The more information you can provide, the better we will be able to make suggestions. You might also want to look over the information available at www.homenethelp.com and then come back here, provide more information, and ask specific questions.

Steve,

Primarily I want to share the DSL connection but file sharing would be a bonus.

You will need a wireless router.  If you plan on using the USB wireless device on the 8400, note that it is the slower 802.11b device.  I would recommend connecting the 8400 to the router by ethernet since it will probably be located near the dsl modem and router and will not likely be moving around the house.  In order to set up the router for a wirelss connection, you will need to at least temporarily connect one computer to the router by ethernet.

I've had excellent experience with products from Linksys.  Other forum regulars have used products from D-Link and Netgear and I've not heard anything bad about these products.  There are lots of reported problems with the Dell Truemobile routers.  I can't be sure if these are due to user errors or a bad product, but the reports are prevelant throughout these forums.

Hi, Are the extended diagnostics complete? If yes, please share the results, and we’ll be able to suggest the next course of action.
