Wireless Network / Citrix Problem

I have a Latitude C610.  I recently installed a wireless (802b) network.  Netgear 521 card and Netgear 814 v.2 router.  Works great, except I blue screen shortly (1 - 5 minutes) after connecting to my workplace, which uses a Citrix Metaframe connection.  Any suggestions welcomed.

Error message is:

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software.  Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing.  If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options and then select Safe Mode.

I have the same problem on my IBM Thinkpad... must be the Netgear router.

I think I might have discovered how to fix the problem.  The error hasn't occurred for over 12 hours....

The default channel on my netgear equipment out of the box was channel 1.  For security purposes, I changed it to another channel (call it channel "X") and did other things like assigned a SSID.  This was all done on the Netgear firmware.

What I think caused the problem was that I did not tell the Netgear adapter driver that I had changed the channel, and the firmware didn't do that for me.  Last night I went into the W2K Device Manager (i.e., right click on My Computer and click on the Hardware tab, and then select Device Manager), expanded the "Network Adapters" tab, right clicked on my Netgear MA521 adapter and selected "Properties", then selected the "Driver" tab, and then clicked on "Advanced."  There was a "Property" called "Channel" and I noticed that it was still set to channel 1.  I changed it to channel X and have not seen the problem since last night.

Hope it works (for me and for others).  If the problem occurs again, I'll delete this post.  Otherwise you can assume the problem didn't arise again.

I am having the same problem using a Compaq Armada M700, XP Pro and the Netgear 521 wireless adapter.  The blue screen only occurs using remote access software (pcAnywhere, Remote Desktop).  I am blaming the Netgear adapter.  I use a D-Link access point.  I tried changing the channel but that had no effect.  I am going to try another adapter and will post again afterwards.

Well, unfortunately the problem just happened again so I can't say setting the channel on the device driver fixed the problem.    It would stink if I have to get a new adapter.

>> Edit...  After more attempts to solve the problem, I'm going to try another Netgear adapter (other than the MA521 adapter) and will post again with the result... <<

I submitted an incident to Netgear support.  Their only suggestions were to either uninstall the software and reinstall it or download a newer version.  The new version actually worked for awhile.  I was using Microsoft Remote Desktop and pcAnywhere at that time.  I decided to try VNC again and the problem returned.  I then tried a Zonet card (from my shop) and had no problem.  I have now purchased a D-Link DWL-650+ and all of my remote software is working flawlessly and since I have a D-Link access point, I am getting performance beyond 11mbs.  Supposedly 22mbs but that is subject to debate.  As much as I like Netgear products, I certainly am not impressed with the PC card I have.  Anyway, I am done with this.  I suggest shopping for a good price (Ebay) on another card and move on.  Good luck.

Hey, I've got some good news and some bad news.  I recently stumbled across an identical problem to that listed above and the good news is that it is not a hardware problem.  The bad news is that SWbrewer did not have to buy a new card (sorry SW).  The problem is in the software that comes bundled with the card.  The solution is to uninstall the software that came bundled with the card and let windows take care of the wireless networking.  The steps:

Any windows version:
      1.  Access "control panel"
      2.  Select "add/remove programs"
      3.  Select "MA521 Configuration Utility"
      4.  Remove utility.

simple as that, the difficult part is with any windows version other than XP it might be tricky to get the computer to connect with the network . . . but it's possible, I promise.  If you need help just let me know.  Xp is easy as cake, it does it all automatically.  Anyway, best of luck RAing and hope this solves your frustrations,

Jek
