Wireless network connection recognized, no actual connection

I have a home network set up using a Linksys DI-713P 802.11b router.  I currently have one desktop computer wired to it (that works flawlessly) and now I am trying to connect my Inspiron 8600 (Windows XP Pro SP1) to it.  The laptop sees the network, and connects to it, but beyond that, I cannot share any files or connect to the internet through the connection.  I tried releasing and renewing the ip address for the laptop to no avial.  When i do the ipconfig, all of the numbers listed are the same between the laptop and desktop except for the actual ip address.

I had this problem before and got it working perfectly for about a day, then it stopped working.  Any ideas?

Could be one of a hundred things.

Are you trying to set up an encrypted network connection?  If so, start without encryption and go from there.  Also be sure to update the firmware in your router, even if it's new.
