Wireless network function keys

I have a 5100 which I can add a wireless nic to. Once installed. I read somewhere that in order to get it to turn on you would have to initiate some funtions keys. For those of you who already have these in your system, how are these nics turned on.  Do they automatically turn on at boot or do you have to press some function keys to turn them on. If so, what keys do you have to press. I am just trying to find out how they work compared to a pccard nic.

thanks,

No you don't need to press any functions key to turn on a wireless card on a Inspiron 5100. Check in the Device Manager and see if your wireless nic is present under Network adapters.   Or if appear on Other Devices you will need to install first the Drivers for the Wireless mini PCI Card.

I have the same issue. I'm trying to install a router and connect a laptop (wireless) onto the network. It doesn't work and the router company said they need to know if the Wireless Network key os on. (F10) key? I have a Inspiron 5100.
