Wireless network hekp plz

Hi ,
 
I have a dell inspiron E1505 with centrino duo.I also have a linksys wireless router.The wireless router is wired to a desktop as in physicall connected as it does not have a PCMCI card.I want to connect the desktop and my laptop so that I share files between the systems.
 
Plz suggest as to how to go about it.Both systems have win xp.
 
The linksys router is prompting for a 5 digit password.
 
Can anyone help me please.

Please explain.  Is the router requesting a password to enter the router's configuration page or is it requesting a password that you set up for WEP or WPA encryption?  The default router password (to enter into the configuration page is probably admin (you can easily find out by reading the user guide that came with the router).  If it is asking for the WEP or WPA password or key, then only you would know that because you would have to have set them up when you configured the router.
