Wireless network icon always active

Ever since I installed the Linksys software for a wireless pcmcia card, the wireless icon on my desktop indicates it's active even though the card is not in and I'm not online.  When I right click > disable, I receive a window saying "doesn't support protocol."  Something to that extent.

My question is why is it always active even though I'm not online?

Thank you.

John:

I've ran spybot several times, however this continues.  Any other ideas?

Most likely spyware or malware.  Get AdAware and Spybot from www.downloads.com

If things also run slow, check for the W32.Sasser.Worm virus.
