I'm using the network setup wizard in Windows XP and getting the error message. Had no problem setting up my ThinkPad. Bought the Dell used and reformated the hard drive. Everything else seems to be working fine. Installed all the necessary software from Dell.
Can you please better explain what you mean when you say "when trying to setup my Dell Inspiron 1150 to my pc using a jump drive"? I am not sure how or why this relates to networking and I am not sure what it is you are trying to do. If this involves a wireless network, do you have a wireless network card in your computer?
all the software from dell... does that include the drivers? Check the device manager and see if there are any yellow questions marks next to any of your devices.

Check the Device manager for any yellow Exclamation marks, if so, the deivice did not install. If that's the case install the driver manually.
Just check to see how many netwrok adapters did install? If it did, then you have a configuration error to the router.

No yellow exclamation marks on anything showing in Device Manager. Showing one network adapter installed.
