Getting more range and higher speed would require that both the wireless network adapter in the computer and the wireless router be of the same brand and capable of supporting the same non-standard wireless protocol.   Note that a Draft-N or Pre-N wireless are theoretically backward compatible with 802.11g, but since both of these are not accepted standards, there are lots of comptability problems.  You will see these if you spend any time at all reading these forums.  Note also that 802.11g speeds of 54 Mbps are still much faster than most broadband connections, so the speed is limited by the cable and dsl providers, not by the wireless card.  Range is a different issue.
