Have you enabled file and printer sharing on each computer? Have you designated drives or folders as shared resources on each computer? Have you disabled the Windows XP firewall on both computers? The XP firewall will prevent any file and printer sharing.
I set up a network and when i try to view workgroup computers it says the list is unavailable on one and on the other it shows the shared files from itself? what did i do wrong
i have tried multiple times to set it up and followed what volcano11 said but this happens or i get nothing
please help
This is usually a symptom of a firewall blocking access. Again make sure you have disabled the XP firewall and,. if you are running any other software firewalls, either disable it until you get the network to work or configure it to allow local network traffic.
i have disabled both computers firewalls and can ping both computers but they still can't contact each other. Could this be because it is a wireless cable router?

Wireless routers or wired routers should work exactly the same. Try using the tutorials at www.homenethelp.com to set up the network manually.
