In general, you can buy any brand and router model that fits your requirements and budget, but IMHO some brands are better than others, so do your research before you buy. Note wireless routers work only with broadband connections directly (I haven't seen one with a built-in analog modem) so you will need to setup to connect through your desktop if you were to use a dial-up connection to your ISP.
