You are tapping into non-secure wireless networks.  Apparently people running these network don't know or are too lazy to secure their networks.  It is probably not illegal to use these networks, but it is unethical to use them without permission.  Nevertheless, you can't be charged to use them.

Normally it does, but I still hit them from time to time.  I may have given permission in the past to do so, but I don't remember.  TheChibi has only said that he/she is connecting, to these networks.  If he/she can connect to the network without having permission, then it is an insecure network.

I thought SP1 and above asked for confirmation before joining an insecure network...?

Hi!  Is there any way I can determine whether or not my wireless network is secure?  I cannot get another PC to test if it can see my network.  Thanks.

if you have encryption and or mac filtering turned on, then it is secure

Thank you, NemesisDB.  But if I'm not confident that the settings are correct, is there a way to challenge the integrity of my wireless network (i.e., make sure the network is not visible to outsiders) without resorting to borrowing another PC with a wireless adapter?

umm ... delete the encryption key you entered on the wireless client machine and see if it can still connect...

there's not a good way to test mac filtering without getting a new card...
