Below is the summary of steps you will have to follow to enable this feature.
PRINTER SHARING:
1) On the computer where the Printer is installed:
a) Click on Start -- Printers and Faxes -- Right Click on the Printer that has a tick next to it -- Click on Sharing and Security -- Go ahead and enable sharing here. Click Ok and check if the printer icon has a hand symbol under it.
b) Click on Start -- Run -- cmd -- At the prompt, type ipconfig and get the ip address of this computer. For eg: 192.168.1.102
2) On the computer which wants to access the printer through the network:
Click on Start -- Run -- cmd -- At the prompt, type ping ipaddress of the main computer. For eg: ping 192.168.1.102
i) If you get a reply, Click on Start -- Run -- type \\ipaddress of the main computer and Click OK or Open. For eg: \\192.168.1.102
This brings up a window which shows up the shared printer icon. Right Click on it and Click on Connect. This will start the printer wizard which will prompt for the printer CD. Follow the instructions and it should install the network printer.
ii) If you get request timed out, Make sure Firewall is turned off on the main computer where the printer is connected to. (Like Norton Personal Firewall or Mcafee Firewall or XP Internet Connection Firewall).
I follow the steps process until :If you get a reply, click on start -- Run --type\\192.168.1.102. After I typed in the Run box the IP address of the computer where the printer is attached,a box popped up saying:The network path was not found.I tried several times but couldn't go further from there.Any more ideas are appreciated. Thanks.
u have to find the ip address to the desktop computer that has the printer u want to connect to. make sure print sharing is enabled. to see this go to control panel then printers on the desktop. choose the epson. right click th printer and choose share. A hand should show up under the printer icon. It is now able to be seen on the network. then do the following instructions at the bottom of the previous posts. best-trys post is great and it works.
Another problem just developed,"windows could not connect to any of your preferred wireless networks."I'm trying to fix this before I can proceed any further.Thanks.
make sure your wireless router is broadcasting your ssid. I have mine named my name so i know im connected to me all the time and not a neighbor. if u have a linksys go to the website of 192.168.1.1 dont put a www to the left of the numbers.
when u get to the site configure the router to send your ssid on network. hopefully the wireless will pickup your network. goodluck
The problem is connected and disconnected.During the day,it has been connecting for a few minutes then disconnected for about an hour or so.I want know if I can reset the whole router thing. But how?
shut down the computers. then hit the reset button in the back of router or unplug it for a couple of minutes. then plug it back in. wait a while then boot computers up
