Have you disabled or configured all firewalls (inlcuding the Windows XP firewal and any third party firewalls you may have running) to allow local network access?

To find out if it's SP1 or SP2, go to Start > Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance > System. It should tell you there. If it is SP1, go to Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet Connections > Network Connections, then right click on the Local Area Connection and select Properties. Click on the Advanced tab and disable the Firewall.

If it is SP2, go to the same place (Advanced tab) and click on the Settings button under Windows Firewall. Note that it is not a good idea to run more than one firewall, so if you are going to run Zone Alarm or Norton Internet Security, then turn off the Windows Firewall here. If you are not going to run Zone Alarm or Norton, click on the Exceptions tab and make sure there is a check mark next to File and Printer Sharing.

If you are running both Zone Alarm and Norton Internet Security, this is not a good idea. Decide which one you are going to use and uninstall the other one. Then read the documenation for the firewall have you decided to use and determine how you have to configure the firewall to allow local network access.

You also said that you had Norton (although you didn't say if it was Norton Internet Security). If you do have Norton Intenret Security, then you have to configure it to allow local network access. Since I don't have Norton Internet Security, nor do I know which version you have, I can't tell you how to configure it. That's what the product manuals are for.
