It should work exactly the same. There is nothing that you should have changed. Did you recently install any firewall software or change the settings on any firewalls (including the Windows XP built-in firewall)? Did you disable file and printer sharing?
Check the settings on Zone Alarm on the computer to which the printer is connected to make sure that it allows local network traffic. On any computer running Windows XP with SP1, disable the Windows XP firewall. It will not allow File and Printer Sharing. On computers running Windows XP with SP2, make sure that the Windows XP firewall has File and Printer Sharing checked off on the Exceptions tab.
To eliminate a software or configuration problem, reconnect the computer you are trying to use wirelessly to one of the ethernet ports on the wireless router and see if file and printer sharing works. If it does, then something is configured wrong and we can go from there.
I'm running W2000. I tried configuring it with Zone Alarm turned off. I still cant see my laptop when I click on brouse and then click on computers near me or click on windows workgroup or any of the folders listed. the only one that shows up is this one (Spongebob).
It would have been nice to know earlier that you are running Windows 2000 (an OS with which I have little experience). Did you try my suggestion of reconnecting through ethernet to see if the problem now exists there as well?
Not yet. I got your reply now. I will try it today although I believe I have tried this once once and the results were the same. I assume that in terms in terms the file a print sharing exception option in wxp pro that you mean that it has to have a check mark in the box in order for firewall to allow this option because I checked that last night and it was checked.
