wireless problems! aghhhh!

hi all,

im frustrated to bits with my problem.  i have spent hours searching/working on a solution and have not gotten anywhere.

just today, the wireless decides to conveniently stop working.  it can't find any wireless networks and will not connect.  things i have tried:

1. rebooted (this usually does the trick, but not this time)

2. installed newest drivers from the support section

3. uninstalled and reinstalled the adapter

4. installing another wireless adapter (PC card linksys adapter)

5, reinstalled older driver

NONE of these work.  the wireless card seems to be alright (as per device manager) and operational.  the odd problem is that the computer pauses about every second or so (while trying to find wireless network?)  until i disable the card.  even with a linksys pc card adapter i get nowhere.  All WEP keys and SSID stuff is set correctly.  it is NOT the AP because there are several other systems on the same network.  no hotfixes or anything installed or changed before this decided to happen.

any ideas?

Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection 5:

        Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected

TIA!

From a configuration standpoint, the only things it could be are:  SSID name, Encryption levels (64 vs 128), MAC address filtering, and the number of DHCP clients allowed by the access point may have been exceeded.

its not any of those for sure.  is there a way to reinstall windows networking portions without requiring to reinstall XP entirely?  i've kind of run out of options :(  frustrating to say the least since everything has been working so well

In addition, there's a special incantation for restoring TCP/IP to its original state. The article's long, but the actual command (described below "Command Samples") is simple:

netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

thanks for the suggestion, but still does not work.. i think my only option is to reinstall windows.  this is really bad since the system was running exactly the way it should be :|

thanks though!

Before reinstalling, you should look at the various repair options available for XP.  This article's a good source of information.
