Ashley,

Try these tweaks....

Start, control panel, device manager. Click on Network and then right click on your network adapter, left click properties, power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

Go to the power options, and changed the Wireless Adapter Setting, from Maximum Power Setting to Maximum Performance.

Unfortunately, with these new tweaks, it still does not work.  In fact, now my driver is even claiming to have an issue, but when I troubleshoot it, it says it's fine.

ashley119,

Download THESE DRIVERS and save them to your desktop.

Make a system restore point.

Hit the Windows key and the x keys at the same time, device manager, network adapters, right click on Intel(R) Wireless-N 7260,left click uninstall. Tell it to remove the software and the drivers.

Restart your computer. When you login, the new hardware wizard will try to install the adapter. Install the drivers you saved to your desktop. Then do the tweaks above.

Thanks for your time and the tips, but it still cannot connect. This computer is just not capable of connecting to a DNS outside of the States. I guess I've learned the hard way what to research on a computer in the future. I'm just going to ship this expensive paperweight home and get a Mac shipped. Thankfully those have no issues connecting to the internet when out of the US.

ashley119,

You should be able to connect. Try...

Start, all programs, accessories, right click on command prompt, left click run as administrator. Type

netsh winsock reset catalog

This will reset the winsock catalog

Ashley,

What virus program do you have installed. I have seen this happen with certain virus programs.

So I got it to work for about 30 min last night, after that it claimed the DNS wasn't responding.  Would I just have to clear it every time it does that?

I use avast antivirus

ashley119,

Avast should not be a problem.

Hit the Windows key and the x keys at the same time, control panel, network and sharing center.

Click on your connection, click on properties. Look for TCP/IPv4 and TCP/IPv6 and click on properties for both. Have your settings match mine.

If that does not work, you can manually enter a DNS number.See what a persons DNS number is near you. Ask them to run ipconfig /all

I've tried to obtain both automatically. It fails. I've tried putting in the DNS/IP address from my iphone and ipad as those work on the hot spot and those, while consistent on my iphone/pad, does not keep a connection on my PC. A friend of mine who has the exact same hotspot send me her info and her IP and DNS are the same as mine and what I have already tried. Temped to purchase another hotspot to see if it's the hotspot, even though it's just fine for my apple products.

When I use the free internet at my work, the server is based out of Virginia (and I'm assuming that's why it works).  When I attempt to use my hotspot anywhere else, it typically uses a server out of London or the UK. Does this change anything else I should look into? Maybe a UK DNS?

Ashley,

The only things I can think of are...

Windows 8 may not be able to connect to some Cisco routers

If Avast is using the VPN, that may also cause a problem. If you're using this feature with Avast, try turning it off.
