Wireless Problems with XPS L502X
I have a XPS L502X and a BIG problem:
I cannot manage WIFI working (I have a Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030). I do see the SSID's but I cannot connect (I do not get any IP adress). What very interesting is that the signal quality is "bad" even the wireless router is just a couple of meters away. Every AP has a bad quality btw.
I have two other devices on my desk (ipad and notebook - these devices have absolutely no problem connecting to the AP) - and the signal quality is "excellent".
What I did:
- deintalled the drivers and reinstalled --> same
- downloaded newer drivers from Intel --> same
- followed technotes etc. described here --> same
Any Ideas?
Thanks for your help

logi7,
Try...
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Power Options\Create a Power Plan
Select High performance.
Start, control panel, device manager. Click on Network and then right click on your wireless adapter, left click properties, power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.
What is the make and model of your wireless router? What type of security? What channel?

Rick,
Just did that - no progress. Still all SSD's around me have a "bad" quality. BTW my router is a FritzBox 7390 - I am using one dozend of devices (Ipad, notebook, iphone, pc's) with not a single problem.
I just changed the channel on my router - no luck. I also tested it with a secound SSID - no go...
Is there a problem with the wifi device?
Thanks,

logi7,
I use these Recommended Wireless Router Settings I use channel 11. I would make a new SSID to make connecting easier.
You're not using Mac Address filtering, are you?
Can you run an ipconfig /all log and post the information back here.

Rick,
Followed the settings - FritzBox is also using channel 11. Security settings etc. as described in the document. No filtering in place. I event opened the "guest Wlan" with no security. I still cannot connect.
Ipconfig/all does not give me results - the wifi adapter has no ip.
I think there is a problem with my device...

logi7,
Hit the Windows key and the R keys at the same time
Type
cmd
Hit enter. Type
ipconfig /all
Hit enter
Right click at the top of the log, left click on edit, select all
Right click at the top of the log, left click on edit, copy
Then post the log back here.

logi7,
Make sure you have the latest drivers from Dell's website.
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Power Options\Create a Power Plan
Select High performance.
Start, control panel, device manager. Click on Network and then right click on your wireless adapter, left click properties, power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.
While in the device manager, click on advanced. I think it's mear the top, change the setting for 8o2.11n or 802.11g to 20MHz
Places to look to see if your Connection is enabled
Start, control panel, network and sharing center, click on your connection, properties. Look for TCP/IPv4 and TCP/IPv6 and click on properties for each. Have your settings match mine(please visit the thread for the image)

Rick,
did the following:
- powerplan
- changed adapter properties
- checked that dhcp is enabled
- unchecked ip v6
- the 20Mhz was already the default setting.
- the connection is enabled fn+F2
---> still missing ssid's
---> if they show up - they have a very bad signal quality
--> Still the same :-(

Logi7,
Can you connect if you're next to the wireless router?
Firewall turned off in the wireless router?
What virus program are you using?
Is your computer under warranty?

Rick,
A little bit of success here! If I move the notebook around the house - I finally managed to get a connection to the AP. But
- the quality is realy bad - the transfer speed is switching between b and g mode. I cannot connect using N (btw I am now 2 meters away from the AP with no reliable connection.
I found a newer driver on the Intel website - I download this one. Let's see

This adapter has a problem! The only way to get a connection when you put the notebook next to the AP. I will call support.
Thanks anyway!

logi7,
You could first check to see if the antenna wires can loose or came off. INSTRUCTIONS HERE.
