Wireless Profiles - Need Help ASAP

I am trying to figure out a way to create "wireless profiles" that I can use to switch between different configations from one site to another.. The profiles mist be able to contain the following information on a profile by profile basis:

[1] type of network (902.11b or 802.11g)

[2] type of security (WEP or WPA)

[3] any and all passwords related to the security

[3] TCP/IP information which changes on a profile by profile basis.. sometimes it will be DHCP, other times it will be static (depends on the actual netywork location and configuration)

I cannot figure out how to do this using any of the functionality provided by Windows XP Pro or by the WLAN or QUICKSETS softyware provided by Dell..

Someone please help me out before I shoot myself.. this is such a no brainer thing to do.. I am really bummed becuase my old laptop used a PCCARD solution for wireless from 3COM and it came with software that did all of the above.. when I ordered my new Dell Inspiron 600m with a 1450 wireless card, I assumed the same functionality would be available, but it is not..

PLEASE HELP!!

Many thanks in advance!

Warm Regards,

-R

in general, using XPs config utility you can setup a variety of sites and list them as prefered networks -- list the info you need for each SSID.  windows will remember it when it is within range of that network and will automatically connect you

Normally networks assign IP addresses by DHCP and the Windows utility can deal with that quite well. Go to google.com and do a search for netswither. This program may be able to do what you are looking for.

the built in Windows XP can not switch between TCP/IP settings required for each different network.. thanks, but I need a *REAL* solution.. its too bad the people at MS and DELL could not have included this *SIMPLE* feature in their product when they where already paying software engineers..

sorry, guess I didn't read your post that carefully ...  still, winXP can handle all your points but that one

winXP does allow you to enter one alternate configuration ...  not sure if you need more than that or not...?  that would give you dhcp plus one static address

I use a product called NetSwitcher (I am not associated with them).  I purchased it a few years ago when I was flying back and forth between my home and our home office for a few months.  It is great.  I have four different configurations right now... home network, office network, remote network, remote hotel.

When I shutdown, it asks if I want to change the config.  If so, it changes the config, and shuts down the computer.  When I boot up at the new location, all the settings are correct for that location.

It even allows you to go from a workgroup type of configuation to one where you login to a domain.  It is a good product.

You can check it out at the NetSwitcher product page, if you are interested.
