The security key is only used for wireless connections.  An ethernet cable will work fine. It's best to position the router and modem near the ethernet connected computer. PS the security key- WEP- is not encryption. It just makes it more difficult for unauthorized connections from outsiders--very similar to a password.

Thanks....that's exactly what I need to know.  And thanks for putting it in words I can understand!

I knew WEP wasn't as secure as other alternatives but I assumed it was low-level encryption.  Is WAPA actual encryption?
