wireless router setup
I have just aquired an Inspiron 1525 notebook, Windows Vista basic O/S,Belkin 802.11g wireless router,YY220 intel 4965AGN wireless-N Mini Card. My internet connection is with OPTUS cable.
I opened the packaging and tried to follow the Quick Installation Guide which has steps A-E on it.
I could not implement step B because my present Desk Top computer has a USB connect from the back of the Optus modem to the back of the computer to a USB port. Step 'B" I refer to above in the QIG guide requires me to connect this USB cable into the back of the wireless router which only has "ethernet connections at the back. I tried to leave the my Desktop computer connected from the USB socket in the back of the OPTUS modem and to the computer USB port (directly wired to the internet) and then with the ethernet cable supplied by the wireless router people I connected from the OPTUS ethernet socket to the wireless router. I can not get the CD setup disk which came with the router to go beyond the step that trys make laptop connect properly with the router.
Should I get an apprpriate NIC for the desktop with an ethernet connection or is it possible to get the network working as it is ?
The Network I am trying to setup consists of one Desktop computer (wired into the cable modem) and a laptop connected via the wireless modem. HELP

The Optus cable modem needs to be connected to the router with an ethernet cable
It's never a good idea to connect you computer directly to the modem. Even with a software firewall, it's nice having an extra protection from a router.
When you have plugged the modem into the router, unplug both. Then plug the router in, then the modem.
