01dabreoo,
I suggest you discuss the situation with your ISP. They may be willing to provide you with a new modem, replacing the current one. Only your ISP can tell you which modems are compatible with their network.

01dabreoo,
You can Google for "USB router" but they are difficult to find and expensive once you find one. You best option is to replace the modem with one that supports ethernet connection. Your second best option is a combination modem/router.

i emailed them recently and all they had to say was
"With regards to technical support as previously stated Wanadoo are
unable to support home networking. Consequently as part of any
diagnostic procedures performed by our technical support team we would
request the procedures be carried out on a stand - alone PC, preferably
using the original USB modem if you received or purchased one."
and that they recomend there wireless router, but i would have to pay £4 extra a month when i dont wat the extra charges, i would prefer a 1 of cost.
i will contact them again about the situation, also are there and modems you could recomend.
thanks

01dabreoo,
It certainly seems like Wanadoo holds all the cards. I'd say Wanadoo is unwilling to support home networking, rather than unable. At least they are unwilling, unless you use their own equipment.
Recommending a DSL modem is very problematic. Many times DSL ISPs require proprietary equipment, manufactured to their specifications and often running special firmware. Can you identify the make and model of the modem you currently have? There may be identifying labels on the modem itself. With that information we may be able to move forward. Do you know another Wanadoo customer that is using their networking modem and could get the make and model from it?
From reviewing the Wanadoo website, I see they offer their service over BT telephone lines. As an alternative, could you discontinue your Wanadoo DSL service and obtain it directly from BT? Perhaps then you could specify the type of modem you want.
I don't blame you for not wanting to pay the additional charge to Wanadoo for their networking option. The cost of buying your own modem will be paid back in less than a year most likely.

01daberoo.
You may be able to find a used Vigor 2200, which is a wired USB router - no internal modem or wireless. There are 3 listed on eBay now. Scroll down the Vigor 2200 page and you will see your SpeedTouch modem. But to support wireless you will need to add a wireless access point (or wireless router configured to run as an access point - they're cheaper.) The total cost should be much less than £150. In the US an inexpensive D-Link router runs about US$20 - the DI-514.

a Broadband modem that is compatible with the settings given in the
previous email. Unfortunately Wanadoo cannot support 3rd party modems or
router setups.
Wanadoo do supply their own Wireless package called Wireless can Talk
this is rented to you for £4 per month and comes with a evening and
Weekend calls included.
You get a Wireless Livebox Router / modem with 1 USB wireless adaptor
included.
The router modem can be connected wirelessly to up to 6 computers with
additional adaptors and wired to up to 2 computers via an Ethernet
connection."
