Wireless Router. Wireless light not coming on

I have a Dell Wireless 2350 Broadband Router. The wireless light is not coming on. Why might that be?

After some troubles I finally got it working with my ADSL modem so that it works as an ethernet wired router. But no luck with wireless. My laptops don't appear to be detecting anything, but I presume there's no way they will, untill the wireless light comes on (?)

If I go to router config web interface and into 'Advanced wireless' settings, there's an option to enable/disable. That's enabled though. Also 'hide my wireless network' is disabled. All looks good to me. Why else might my wireless light not be lighting up?

Only time the wireless light comes on, is if I re-run the setup configuration utility, it comes on very breifly while all the lights a flashing at various times.

Replace it with another unit.

Pressing the reset button and holding for 10 seconds? Done that already Do you think downloading a firmware upgrade might help? Unfortunately I am out-of-warranty by a long way. Router came with my computer back in August 2005, and foolishly I only go around to trying it properly now.

Either that or try a total reset on the router.

For sure, do a Firmware upgrade or re-flash.  If the issue still persists, time to go shopping.

I think most of the old timers here would recommend Linksys. D-Link, Belkin, or Netgear.  Personally, I an a Linksys fan.

Problem solved. For anyone else's future reference, it turns out the wireless light doesn't really flash that often, and only when it is in use, so no light doesn't necessarily indicate a problem. The difficulty I was having must be at the laptop end (which I still need to look into) A different laptop managed to pick up the wireless network.
