Wireless Security Issue

Have had my Dell lap top (Inspiron 1520) for about 2months. Was going well until the middle of this week when I had to restart my computer. Once Windows Vista rebooted my internet (wireless connection) wouldn't connect. Basically with no security key/unsecured it will connect. When I add a security key it doesn't connect. My gf's laptop works fine either way. I've replaced the wifi card. Just bought a new router. Any ideas? Thanks for any help.

Do you have any third party software firewalls installed on your laptop?(Norton Internet Security, McAfee Security Suite, Trend Micro PC-cillin, etc.) What version of Vista do you have?

I have McAfee running. How do I find out what version of Vista? What's as annoying, since this problem started when i check my email it's taking 15-20 seconds to send/receive.

Did your McAfee come already installed on the laptop, or is it a retail version? The 15-20 sec send/recieve times are probably because of the e-mail filters in the software. The version of Vista will usually display on the Vista Welome screen.

McAfee was already installed on the computer. All I could find on Vista was "home premium" version. How do I view/change the email filters? Thanks.

To the best of my knowledge, the only security software manufacturer that has released a version of software that is compatible with Windows Vista is Trend Micro. Check your Control Panel(Classic View)? If you have a Windows Firewall icon and a Windows Defender icon, then you don't need the McAfee installed on the computer.
