Wireless set up

Hi All,

I am new to this game and getting quite confused about what I need to set up a wireless network. I have two desktops and two printers (1 general and 1 photo). Can anyone recommend what I need to set this system up and perhaps the best place to get it?

Many thanks for your help

Are you also going to share a broadband internet connection?  In any event, the best solution would be a wireless cable/dsl router.  This would allow you share a broadband internet connection and share files and printers between the computers.  It is always a good idea to connect at least one computer to the router by a wired etherent connection.  That way if you have problems with the wireless part of the network, you can still access the router through the wired connection.  Thus, in addition to the router, you will need an ethernet network card in the one computer that will connect by ethernet and a wireless network adapter in the computer that will connect by wireless.  Without knowing the details of the computer models you are going to connect it is difficult to tell you exactly what you need in terms of network cards.  In general, PCI network cards work the best.  Depending on your computer model, you may already have an ethernet card in one of your computers.  Routers and network cards from Linksys, Belkin, Netgear, or D-Link should work just fine and these can be found at places like Best Buy, WalMart, Circuit City, CompUSA, Frey's, Office Depot, OfficeMax, etc.

Hi Steve,

Thanks very much for your advice, it is very gratefully received. I am in the UK so will try to source the hardware you suggest locally. I don't think I have an ethernet card already but I will check before I purchase a new one.

Thanks again and best regards
