the only wireless things i know about is netgear. i have a netgear wireless card on my laptop and a regular netgear wireless router for my other computers. my basement computer is hooked into roadrunner and the router and the one upstairs is hooked into the router only. hope this helps you. im sure there are other brands just as good but ive had netgear products for 3 years now and  have had no problems at all.

MrKite,

Nearly every brand of router on the market today has 4 ethernet ports.  This allows you to connet the cable modem to the router and connect up to 4 computers by wired ethernet to the router (and therefore to the internet) and up to 250 more computers to the router by wireless.  Thus, you will not need a wirelss card for the computer that is currently connected to the modem by a ethernet.  You will just simply connect it to one of the 4 ports on the router.
