Wireless Speed Half As Slow As Wired
Hi there,
I got Dell Inspiron N5010, Win 8.1 pro 32bit,
bios AMI EFI v.15, CPU Type Mobile DualCore Intel Core i3-350M, 2266 MHz
RAM 3Gb
HD 5470
Dell DW1501 Wireless-N WLAN Half-Mini Card Network Adapter PCI
Router - 1 meter away
I have a problem with my WI-Fi connection it turns out to be twice as slow as the wired. My wired speed is 40 Mbts/s (which is about 5.5 Mb/s download speed), but the wireless gives me only 27 Mbts/s at the most. I got the right driver I think -
PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4727&SUBSYS_00101028&REV_01
I've tried all the driver settings - the settings that somehow effect the speed are BSS Mode - its best with 802.11g,
then - WMM - disabled
and
XPress TM Technology - enabled.
With these settings I get around 27 Mbpts.
Then, my router is Huawei WS319 - it doesn't matter if WPS enabled or disabled, doesnt matter what kind of encryption I use WPA or WPA2 - no difference.
Doesn't matter Transmission mode, channel, Enable WMM (QoS), mcs, bandwidth - all that doesn't matter.
Router firewall disabled.
IGMP snooping enabled.
I tried a lot of other drivers - some of them were worse, some were the same.
There were a couple of times when with this current driver I'd get 37 - 39 Mbts/s, though. But that was only a couple of times. The stable speed I get is a little over 25.
I'm just wondering if its my laptop's wi-fi adapter....
Can anybody give any advice, please?

Hi! In case anybody having a similar issue - its the latest Windows updates (mid-late November 2014). I re-installed Windows 8.1 without the latest updates - my Wi-Fi speed rises up to 40 Mbts. In any way, that's how it is in my case.

Go to Device Manager:
Look for the Network Adapters and open the properties of your "DW1501 Wiresless-N WLAN Half-Mini Card"
When you're there, in the Advanced tab, Change the "BSS Mode" to 802.11g Mode.
