Wireless stopped working PLEASE HELP
Hi,
Got a new alienware m14x r2 laptop a just over a week ago. Was fine for 2 days then couldn't connect to my router. Troubleshooting said to reset router. Reset router and connected fine. Then everytime i turned laptop on it would not connect and had to reset router. After beeing connected for a couple of hours would randomly loose connection and I would have to reset router again to connect. All other computers and mobile phones in house could connect no problem whilst alienware laptop telling me router has problem. Tried 2 other routers same problem, alienware says router needs to be reset whilst any other computer or phone can connect no problem. Then wouldn't connect even after reseting the router. I tried uninstalling the wireless card , didn't work. I tried uninstalling wireless card and driver then reinstalling, didn't work. Tried system restore to day I received laptop, didn't work. Phoned dell support and was told couldn't be a hardware problem must be a software problem and they recommended I re-install windows. I did a full re-install of windows and all drivers and and was able to connect to internet without any problems for 2 days untill today and its doing the same thing again telling me it can't connect and I need to reset the router. I tried another system restore to before some of windows updates but still didn't fix problem. The only other software i have installed is pkr microsoft security essentials, google chrome and pkr poker. I tried system restore to before these were installed and didn't help.
I can't work it out and my computer knowledge is limited. PLEASE HELP someone.
Many Thanks in advanced,
Chris

Chris,
Can you run an ipconfig /all log and post it back here.
What virus program and firewall are you using?
Is there a program that is used to manage your connection?

Im using microsoft security essentials with windows firewall.
The connection appears to be managed by both windows and an intel wifi connection utility

Chris,
From looking for the specifications for the Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 2230 adapter, I find some questions.
Can you find any documentation about the adapter? From what I'm seeing, it looks like this adapter work on the 5.1GHz band ONLY and it has Bluetooth. If that is correct, do you have a Wireless N router that works on the 5.0GHz band and/or a dual band wireless router?
You can check Microsot Essentials and see if it's being blocked. This is for the firewall for printers but should get you in the general area. Allow Printer past Microsoft Essentials

Chris,
Did you setup the wireless router, twice? Once for the wireless G and once for the wireless N?
OI would try setting up the router for the wireless G band and use pokerpro1984_G for the SSID and use these Recommended Wireless Router Settings, I use channel 11. You could probably use WPA2 instead of WPA unless you have other wireless devices to connect, like printers, cell phones and other wireless devices.
Then setup the Wireless N section, use pokerpro1984_N for the SSID and select one of the higher channels for that network.
If the adapter does not connect, then post back. I see you're getting an ip address, so try connecvting in the same room as the router.
Is you system under warranty.

Hi Rick thanks for the reply.
I have no documentation for the adaptor so I have looked online on the intel website. The adaptor is b/g/n dual stream (2x2) single band 2.4GHz with bluetooth 4.0. My router is dual band b/g/n.
I don't understand how I check if MSE is blocking it.
Thanks again,
Chris
