The article you referenced refers to Windows XP with SP1.   SP2 fixes most of those problems.  Do you have SP1 or SP2 (you should have SP2 at this late date).

With the Intel adapter, you probably have the Intel Wireless Utility running.   Open that Utility. It should have a box to check to "Let this utility manage the wireless network" (I don't know the exact wording because I don't have that utility).  Remove the checkmark from that box and see if that solves the problem.

Hi Steve:

Yes, I do have Service Pack 2.  What you suggested is exactly what the other technicians wanted me to do - the problem is, even though the adapter is installed, XP doesn't recognize it and change the tab that would allow me to check that box.  It is a completely different tab that doesn't have that option.

Right now it won't let me use the Linksys software, nor the Windows Wireless Utility.  I would like to go ahead and use the Windows Wireless, but even with just the drivers installed it won't take control and scan for available wireless.  It tells me to use the software that comes with the adapter.

Have you resolved this issue? If not one thing to try is to turn off or uninstall your security center (Norton, McAfee, PC Cillin) what ever you have installed. It may be blocking it.
