Wirelss Problems
Hi
I have posted this problem in the past and still have not resolved the issue. I can't find my previous post with suggested solutions so will re-post now. I am technically UNSAVVY so any suggestions I ask to please be step by step:emotion-16:
I have a Dell Inspiron 1505 which I use to teach online courses. We recently had to reinstall all drivers for our Gateway desktop as the hard drive crashed. In addition, I had to purchase a new Netgear Router. Currently desktop is working fine connected to the router but my Dell will NOT connect to the internet unless I do the following:
Go into computer management, click on services and start the wireless zero configuration. After doing this, I have to click on the internet connection icon on my bottom toolbar, change advanced settings, click on wireless network tab and then click on "use windows to configure my wireless network settings."
When I first turn my computer on, if I go into "change advanced settings" in the view the available networks, there is no "Wireless Networks" tab. I have to go into WZC every time in order to get this tab to show. I have checked the network adapters and I have the following:
1394 Net adapter, Broadcam 440x10/100 Integrated Controller, and Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN mini card. These are all working fine, so I am hoping this is just a simple settings problem. I would appreciate any help. I used to be able to just click on the internet Explorer tab and get to the internet automatically. I have no idea what is going on or what changed so quickly, but I definitely need my laptop. I have tried turning everything off, waiting 5 minutes and re-starting to no avail.
Thanks!
Jennie

Your previous thread was created after the point we backed up the old database for migration over to this site.
My last suggestion on it, and I don't recall whether you had tried it or not, was to check the Dell Wireless Utility to see whether it was configured to manage the wireless connection. I believe it is a simple "Use this utility to manage the connection" checkbox on the main tab. If that doesn't work post back and we'll go from there.

Hi,
You can find DELL WIRELESS UTILITY in the list of programs installed on your computer. Start-All Programs-Dell wireless Utility.

Thanks for your help. Sometimes the simplest things are the hardest to find:emotion-4: I went into the Dell Wireless utility and guess what I discovered? My new router wasn't listed. All I had to do was add my new one to the list and apply it then the problem was solved.:emotion-55: Thanks again:emotion-2:
