Wirerless adapter can not find Network

I just bought 2 Latitude D-520 with Intel 3945 Wireless internal NIC. I've had them less then 24 hours. I'm experiencing 2 issues.

1. The signal strength is weak. I have them sitting right beside Dell inspirons. The Inspirion will show 5 bars the Latitude will show 1 or 2. If I refresh it might go up to 4.

2. I get network domain cannot be found error when I attempt to log into my WIndows Network. If I wait a while it may eventually find it after repeated login attempts. If I just log into the local machine I have Internet access from the same network source and can connect to my network via Citrix, however this is not an acceptable solution.

Any one have similar experience and/or solution?

Thanks
John

how did u setup wireless internet on these machines? did u speak to the router support team. looks like the windows wireless utility is not managing your wireless connectivity. you can either make sure that the windows wireless utility is managing it or call your router support tech to reconfigure wireless settings.

Thanks for the reply Mike

I did eventually get to the Dell Wireless group and I did switch from Intel managed to Window managed. That solved the not finding network error but connection strength is still very weak. When I do side by side tests of the new Latitudes and my existing Inspirons, the Inspirons always have a steady 5 bars from anywhere inside the office. The Latitudes loose 5 bars when I'm more then 20 feet from the router and typically has only 3 bars and will regularly drop the connection then pick it back up again.  As far as configuration goes I only know how to look at the network settings on the Inspirion and make sure they match the Latitude. They do.  My next test will be to use a TrueMobil PCMCIA card I have on some older Dells on the new Latitude to see if it behaves better? If it does the Latitudes are going back and I'm sticking with the Inspirons with external cards.

On a positive note I love this Listserv product. Clear easy interface and spell checker!!!! Is this a product available to the public?

Thanks

John

good that it worked for you.

all routers have a typical distance of about 15 feet when it works fine with any notebooks (wireless n/w card). you will have to check your router and its specifications to find the ideal distance you can be connected to it wirelessly.

i am really not sure about the listserv email s/w. but i found this link for you.

this is their contact info. they got a toll-free number!!! you can call them and find out.

Mike, thanks very much for your help. I'm not going to beat a dead horse, but these two Lattitudes are the first wireless notebooks to give me any connection problems. Like I said I have several Insprirons that have internal cards and they work just fine from anywhere in the office. The occational office visitor with their own notebook( Dell, IBM, HP, Toshiba) and wireless card connects just fine when I give them the router security password and a temporary/guest network ID.

For better or worse I'm the office IT person with limited knowledge in this area. If a computer doesn't work as well as others I have limited time and resources to trouble shoot. My solution is to stick with what works in my environment. The Insprions work. The Latitude don't.

Thanks much for the info on this listserve.
