Wirless router and aol

I just got an Inspiron 1000 with a wireless card. I am planning on getting a router so I do not have to use a phone line.  With that, can I access regular aol (or another isp) or does it have to be roadrunner or something?  Can anyone recommend a router?  Thank you :)

first off you will need a wireless router.  you will also need an ISP that does not use a phoneline (if you don't want to use one as you said).  this can be a cable or DSL provider.  it should work with AOL Broadband.  Your broadband ISP will provide you with a DSL or Cable modem which you will plug into an ethernet port in the wireless router.

some wireless routers do come with modems (or ports to connect an external modem).  these are much more expensive but will let you continue to use some dial-up ISPs.  They will probably not work with dial-up services like AOL.
