Won't connect to any wireless network

I've got an Inspiron 6000 with a Dell Wireless 1470 Dual Band WLAN-PCI Card (running on XP) and I'm having the serious problems. When I first got my laptop it worked fine and then it just stopped out of the clear blue. It picks up the signal and says it is connected but the page never loads (i.e. the connection always times out). I've repaired connections, rolled back and re-installed drivers, switched to FireFox, tried starting it in safe mode and still nothing (and I don't have security enabled on my router). Oh, and it pings. Any suggestions? I'm getting desperate!

To help troubleshoot this problem, on the computer with the problem, go to Start > Run and type cmd then click OK. In the command prompt window that opens, type ipconfig /all then hit the enter key. Write down the output from this command or select it and save it to a txt file, then copy this output into a reply to this message.

Wow.  What make and model router is this?  I've never seen one that has an IP address of 192.168.254.254.

It doesn't appear to be connecting to a valid domain server.  Do you have other computers on this same network that can sucessfully make an internet connection to through this same router?   If so, run the ipconfig command on one that makes a connection and post the results for comparison.

It's a SIEMENS SpeedStream 6520. I've got a desktop computer hooked to it and it works just fine.

And I forgot to mention that my friends' laptops can connect to it without any trouble.

Try the following.

Open the command prompt window again and type - ping dell.com then hit the Enter key.  Does it get 4 valid replies or 4 time-outs?

Then, in the same command prompt window type - ping 143.166.83.38 then hit the Enter key.  Does this get 4 valid replies or 4 time-outs?

Well, those tests show that you are connecting to the internet and that it is able to resolve domain names into IP addresses.  Something must be blocking the web browsers.   Do you have any firewall programs running that may be blocking web browsing?

If you boot to Safe Mode with Network Support, can you connect to internet sites through Internet Explorer or Firefox?

If there is something running in the background in Normal mode that is blocking the browser, then no it won't work in Normal mode.  What this tells you is that there is something running in Normal mode that is blocking the web browser.  It could be a firewall or all kinds of other things.  The trick is find out what it is and stop it from running from startup in Normal mode.

The place to start is to go to Start > Run and type msconfig then hit the Enter key.  Click on the startup tab and you will see a bunch of programs that run when your computer starts.  But removing the check mark next to a program, it will prevent that program from running when your restart the computer.  By trial and error, you should be able to figure out which of these items is causing your problem.

My firewall is turned off. OOOOHHHHH! I just re-booted in safe mode and it connected with Firefox! It's a miracle!!! Does this mean it will work when I'm not in safe mode? What should I do now?
