This is a shot in the dark....but do you have any Cordless Telephones? If so are any of them 2.4Ghz phones?
if the answer to both questions is "yes" then you have to change the channel for your wireless signal (Linksys website has instructions). Linksys recommends Channels 1, 6, and 11 as the most likely to have the least amount of interference.
I'm having a somewhat related problem -- I have a linksys BEFW11S4 v4 router (which is centrino verified) with the latest firmware (1.50.10) and an inspiron 8600 w/ centrino. I downloaded the latest drivers from the dell site (including one that just came out last night). I was having dropped connections under WEP security, but the drivers fixed that. However, I still cannot use WPA security -- the option shows up in the wireless config, but once I restart the laptop it will have an 'excellent' connection, but will never get assigned an IP address. Intel ProSet shows "Associated not Authenticated with (my network's SSID)". Suggestions? Oh yeah, I'm still using the Windows Network Configuration, not Intel ProSet. Will that change anything?
I figured out that my WEP problems stopped because of my disabling 802.1x authentication, not because of the new drivers. My WPA problems remain, however. Has anyone figured out how to get WPA working w/ centrino? Has anyone even gotten WPA-PSK + TKIP to work at all?
Sucess! I solved the problem with my BEFW11S4v4 router by downgrading the firmware back to 1.50. Ironically, Linksys support's first suggestion had been to upgrade to 1.50.10 (which I did immediately after setting up the router). Now WPA seems to be functional (it has been working for a few hours and many restarts). Apparently version 1.50.10, in fixing other issues, destroyed the BEFW11SFv4's WPA capability.

Hi modena328 !
No, I don't have any other 2.4 GHz items in my home.
I have tried different channels, and it is no different.
Also the fact that WEP encryption works flawlessly would make me believe that it is not the kind of interference problem you suggest.
The specs of my system is found as my signature below.
btw, the text i have taken from the ping utility is in danish, but i think you get the idea
