Xp computer not visible for file sharing

Question

i used to have an old netgear router that allowed me to file share between computers quite freely but slowly. so i upgraded now i have the much faster netgear WNR3500 which has plenty of firewalls. however using this seems to block the visibility of my etherneted xp machine. meaning that when i open up the networked computers folder in a newer vista machine it shows everything but the xp machine. i tried disabling firewalls on routers and disabling the ethernet on the xp machine and using a wireless card instead but it still wont become visible.the router itself responds to pings and other computers connected wirelessly do to but the xp machine will not. i believe it is a problem with one of the multiple firewalls that computer has collected through the years. could someone plz tell me how to wipe the previous network data so i can start a new one. and what ports to open.

Running more than one firewall on any computer is bound to cause problems and confusion.  Try disabling all firewalls except the Windows firewall on the XP computer.    Steve

Im sorry. im familiar with forum etiquite and i should have.

anyways. solution. disable firewalls on router and disable all other firewalls leaving windows firewall on with a filesharing port open. add all computers to the network again
