XP SP2 and DSL problem

Running a Dimension 2350 with a Broadcom 440x 10/100 integrated controller and yesterday lost connectivity to Verizon on the DSL line. Had installed Win xp SP2 a few weeks ago and it was OK, no comm problems. After an hour or so with Verizon support they said it was the controller that was the problem.

Has anyone had any problems with the Broadcom controller and XP SP2 on a DSL line? If so, how was it corrected?

Thanks

Are you getting an IP address from the router?  Have you tried resetting the network by shutting everyting down, starting the modem first, waiting a few minutes for the network to synchronize, the starting the computer?  It obviously has nothing to do with SP2, since it worked with SP2 before.  Have you removed all spyware from your computer?

Yes, did all the usual stuff, while going through the Verizon tech support process. When the system was shut down for a while today and brought back up the connection apperaed to be fine. Not sure what it will look like in the morning though -- I'm really leaning towards it being a Verizon problem though they said that they checked through the modem remotely and it was a hardware problem in the controller.

I'll also check the driver in the morning to see if it is the latest - I saw a driver in the DELL AsiaPacific forum for the controller that was dated this August - though the last US driver dates back to 2003

Thanks

There were some instructions for a corrupted Winsock that I found in another message in this forum that did indicate we had one good and one bad connection - although there shuld only have been one.

We tried the fix but it didn't apear to work - but rather than reinstalling the OS we went back to a restore point before the error began and it looks like it is running OK now, under SP2.

Jerri6,

I have a similar problem. I too installed XP SP2 and ran it for several days. Then the power went out and when it was restored I could no longer connect my desktop to the Internet. I have Linksys wireless B/G router for my WLAN and a USB .11B network adapter on my desktop to connect to it. I called Linksys and they said this is not uncommon and that they are working on a patch (Linksys said it was a SP2 problem and suggested uninstalling it)

I still cannot connect to the Internet now even though I did uninstall SP2.
