XPS 8300 with weak wireless connection

My xps 8300 has always indicated the wireless signal is a little weak even when the router is on the floor next to it. Usually it would show 3 or 4 bars of 5.

Recently I've moved and I'm accessing a relatively new router that is about 30 feet away. The XPS system shows usually 1 to 2 bars and occasionally 3.  When this system is used for Netflix or Hulu, the quality of the signal is pitiful and the show constantly starts and stops.

When I put a five year old HP laptop(ZV5000) on the floor next to the xps 8300, the HP shows five solid bars and both Netflix and Hulu run perfectly. Other computers even farther away access the router routinely with no issues.

Can anyone suggest a solution?  Thanks.
