Zoom Cable Modem and True Mobile 1184 Problems

I recently replaced my rented Charter 3Com cable modem with a Zoom 5140 modem and am having problems connecting to the internet when using the Dell 1184 Router.

  • Zoom modem works fine when I connect directly to the Lap Top (3Com 3C920 Integrated Fast Ethernet Controller)
  • System worked great using the 3Com cable modem.
  • The Internet is not working when using the 1184 Router and the Zoom Modem.
  •  Turned off Router overnight and pressed the Reset Button several Times
  • Called Charter Support and they stated everything should be working
  • Internet light on router is on. And the the ethernet light on the modem is also on.
  • Diagnosis on the Router shows (Exact Spelling) Notonected for the Cable/DSL

Please Help, I have tried everything I know

Get into the 1184's administration ( http://my.router) and look at the WAN settings - set it for getting an IP address automatically and try a release/renew.  It is possible you need a crossover cable between the router and the modem.

I have tried several times to release/renew the IP but to no avail. It tells me the WAN is not active.  I will try the cross-over cable.
