If you connect the monitor directly using the original cable do you get the same problem?  If not, the extension cable you are using is causing the problem (some will not work with cables over a certain length too).   If it still does it, without the extension cable, it sounds like either a setup button on the front could be causing the problem or something was damaged internally with the move.   If the monitor is the problem and it's still under warranty contact Dell.  If it's out of warranty, live with the inconvenience as the only other option is to buy a new monitor.
