Downloaded Driver Updates
I downloaded 12 updates using Dell Download Manager. It did not give me the option to Run anything, only to Save the files. So I clicked on Save and saved all the updates to my Downloads file. When the manager was done downloading all the updates then it gave me the option to Open the Folder. I clicked on one folder, double clicked every file in there and ran all of them. On the last one it automatically re-started my computer. When it came back up I went to the Downloads folder to finish installing the other 11 and can't find any others than the first file I had clicked on. Where are the others? Or, is there a way to bring the Download Manager back up and get that same list that gave me the option to open each folder? Or, do I have to go back & re-download all those again? Please help, this is just driving me crazy.

bigmamas,
Try reading...
How to by-pass the Dell Download Manager, then use Internet Explorer and download the drivers in your browser.
The Desktop/Notebook Utility needs to be installed first(if applicable), then the chipset drivers. If they are NOT installed first, then the rest of the drivers will fail to install.
How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order
Since the operating system was re-installed did you remember to go to drivers and downloads, enter your service tag(DO NOT POST SERVICE TAG here or your post will get deleted, since it contains your personal information), and install these drivers in this order.
:emotion-55: Hint :emotion-55: When downloading the drivers, make a folder for each drivers and name it with the device it belongs with to make it easier to install them in the proper order.
Desktop System Software or Notebook System Software(if applicable)
Chipset or SMBus driver
Processor Driver (if applicable)
Video
Audio (sound)
Input Drivers (keyboard/mouse)
Modem
Network Card
QuickSet(Laptop only)

Thank you Rick, your answer really helped and my problem is solved. Have to say I love my Dell products, but don't find the website particularly user friendly. But that's why there is a community forum. Thanks again.

Karen,
Glad you got it working! :emotion-21: Thanks for posting back. At first I thought you were talking about the forums. :emotion-5: Please remember to get your virus protection installed. I use FREE Avast Home Edition
Take care,

Wondering if you might help me again. I have attached 2 different auxialliary USB's to my Inspiron 1545 at seperate times. They work for a while then quit. I know it's the USB extension because when I plug in my 3G connector & external mouse directly to the laptop USB ports, they work. I saw something in the Forums from 2005 about additional power maybe needed for these? It was way over my head technically, & then the guy seemed to say he didn't need it, so not sure. Also, I downloaded 12 new drivers that Dell either marked Recommended or Urgent. Since then my lapto is incredibly slow starting. Any ideas? Thanks for the help.

Karen,
Try these tweaks, I use them on all the computers in my home.
Go to device manager(right click my computer, left click properties, left click hardware, left click device manager)
Go to the USB Controller section and click the + sign.
Go to each USB Root Hub and right click on it, left click properties, left click power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.
Restart your computer.

Go to device manager(right click my computer, left click properties, left click hardware, left click device manager). Click on Network and then right click on your wireless adapter, left click properties, power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

Thanks again Rick.
Much easier answer than the technical stuff I was seeing on the forums. Seems to be working. Any ideas on my start up being so slow since I downloaded the updated drivers from Dell?

Karen,
This can get tricky, so I am going to suggest you read...
Windows startup programs. What are they? Are they required? How can I disable them?
