Rebooting will sometime help.  I had all the usb, card readers disappear and it was a bad motherboard.  Connections would work when PC was cool, but as soo as it warmed up, they stopped working.  Leaving the cover off helped for 6 months till they stopped again.  Replacement motherboard was more than new PC.
