What to do ?

What are we supposed to do with a perfectly good Dell Dimension XPS T850r when we can't even find upgrades available for the Windows 98 SE or the Norton Anti-Virus 2005?

I am at my wits end!  This computer was/is desitined for my 74 year old Mother so she can email her family and visit the Vatican once in a while?  Why is it...that these machines are made to last, but the operating systems are not????

If anybody out there with more puter savvy than I has an answer, it is surely appreciated.

Thanks.

Signed,

Frustrated Daughter

Hello,

Windows does not support old versions.

It's not nice, but that is what they do to make us buy a new version. The same goes for Norton.

I suggest that before you hand off your puter to Mom, you install XP and install a new version of anti virus software. It will do no good at all if your mom gets infected because of a windows vulnerability that Norton 2005 can't see.

BTW, Glad to hear that your very old Dell system is still working well.

If you still have the disks, the Operating Sytem should be fully Operational. Windows Updates, if I'm correct, will download only the ones until their support was discontinued. To switch to Vista, at least 1 gig of RAM is suggested and I doubt if that computer would allow it. Try the tool at Cricial and find out.

Virus protaction, try Avast, it's FREE just register.
