7040, internal USB header accept 10-pin USB connector?

I'm planning to install a PCI Express card with an Intel 9260 WiFi/Bluetooth5 chip. The card, I believe, uses the PCI Express lanes for WiFi and a separate USB connector for Bluetooth. The internal USB header on the Dell Optiplex 7040 motherboard appears to have 14 pins (including a disabled one).

Can I plug the 10-pin USB connector to this motherboard?

Thanks for your help.

why not just try it, and tell us, or is this a pre sales question?

no like posted to new hardware,  so answers will be guesses, lacking such key facts.

the 2 antennas need to be outside the case metal or  behind a plastic cover. Wifi and BT are both radio devices.

again NO URL to sold parts.

lots of choices really  on any DT.

they sell a BT device size of 1/5th my thumb nail, plug it in front of PC or  rear, BT cured, and $3 part and almost invisible.  ok
then pci-e wifi card with antenna to rear, in space. or even 6 or 8 foot wired antenna to rear of card

for more distance and speed if  your router is too far way and not stated yet.

do not put any antenna into a faraday cage.... I used to install wifi into elevator shafts and subway tunnels. just for this reason. (some used lossy coax , yea tricky)

for the same reasons. "mr faraday laws are real"

Radio 101:

closer to router best.  and faster it be.

high is best.

in free space, air

or behind plastic , is ok (some plastic now like carbon fiber or copper lined, ouch)

in faraday metal cage , NO GO.

and antenna polarization too, point antenna up and down, not sideways, unless router is same. most are not.

Its not documented and Dell Does not publish this.

So no you cant just use a standard 10 pin connector.

Did it work? I'm trying to do the same thing. Looking at buying ASUS Dual Band 802.11AC Wireless-AC2100 Pci-E Bluetooth 5 Gigabit WiFi Adapter, 160MHz Support (Pce-AC58BT). Don't want to waste money if it won't work. Thank you.

Yes you can.

This answer is incorrect.

It will work. You do not need to use all pins - use the notch to align the pins.

Same 10 pins as flex bay

No pin is what is meant by notch.  Despite the previous posting Dell will neither confirm or deny the data below.DELL USB2.jpg

So can you confirm that the 10 pin USB connector works with the DELL board? It's important for me

I haven't seen that person posting for a while.  But, I tested and confirmed that the 10-pin (actually 9-pin w/1 keyed pin) will work and would provided power to bluetooth devices.

Recently i bought pcie wifi adaptor from second hand marketplace. Turns out it was dell brt wifi and bluetooth pcie adapter ripped off part from old dell optiplex models.

But my gigabyte mobo didn't had 14 pin header but only had 10 pin headers. Looking at your post, i just cut the 4 pin clink part with blade (physically) and attached the remaining 9 pin header to mobo and it instantly worked. New bluetooth device was instantly detected. Thanks speedstep for sharing that discussion link. It was worthy

@Chino de Oro Hi Chino,
I bought a combi wifi-BT PCI-E and for the life of me cannot get the BT powering up. I have Dell 7050 with a 13 PIN USB Header on the mobo. I have checked every single BIOS settings in case there is something there to no avail. The 9 pin connector (one stand-off) nicely plugs in to the 13 pin header but that's it. I have also checked it out using a linux live session and no BT is visible to the system. It is definitely not the question of driver related problems. The hardware BT is not powered on to be visible to Windows 10.
How did you get it to work for god sake??

@Binahejazi , on the OptiPlex 7050, align and connect to 9-pin of the USB header with label WF_BT_USB.  It should work.  If it does not, visual check the USB header soldered wirings (loosen from PCB) and surrounding printed circuits for any signs of damage (disconnected).  Some are repairable while many are not.

Hi mate,

Many thanks for your note. there are no HW issues oinvolved here though I did indeed check the soldering just in case.
The point is that on the same pc when I boot into my Linux(Mint) dual boot system both the wifi and BT instantly work without any additional drivers needed. That said the BT functionality is simply non existent when I boot into Win10 (22H2 - version).

I am about to pull all my hair out, this does not make sense!!!
