9020 USFF, questions
Hi, I have a few questions about the Optiplex 9020 USFF: 1) Would the following RAM’s fit this PC; Kingston HyperX (HX316C10F/4) 512M x 64-bit (4GB) DDR3-1600 CL10 SDRAM Crucial Ballistix Sport, DDR3, 8 GB,1600MHz, CL9 (BLS8G3D1609DS1S00) 2) Will I be able to fit an i7-4790S 3.2Ghz? It currently has an i5-4590S 3Ghz installed. 3) I am interested in upgrading the graphics card in the PC, but I understand this can be difficult due to the small size of the PC. What graphics cards would be compatible, and do I need any extensions/adaptors? Many thanks, EKHL

lots of questions for this dinky fake desktop (no reason stated for faster CPU, doing what, ?)
first If you look at your mobo, there is no PCI-slots there x16, nada.
what ram works buy them at Corsair or Kingston dot com and the work, (some can fail for density rules) so it is not just DDR# @ and speed, it must also make BIOS happy and the intel MCU (mem controller) happy.
then max per slot and max per PC, and density rules. all that must be correct. or may fail, so buy your memory from top sellers, and end guessing 1000 others that will not work. endless that.
The CPU must be supported by your chipset, only those CAN work , intel gen4 it is. but watts matter.
speedstep said
It is doable but you will want the "S" version of the chip due to 65W TDP
then your MOBO can handle the power of that i7 (watts) I don't know your mobo rated power on the CPU socket. but speedstep said that, you can search here on this forum free, to 9020 CPU, try that, and read over and over same answers.
The BIOS must all this (upgrade BIOS)
then there is this. (not dell rated this is random owners testS)
https://www.userbenchmark.com/System/Dell-OptiPlex-9020/820
and last show me PCI-e here. for any CARD of ANY KIND even GPU.

PCI-E can be done but not in the way you might think.
Definitely not supported.

Final question - will the following RAM work in the system?
IN3T8GNAJKI
Integral DDR3 16GB (2x8GB) 1600Mhz (PC3-12800) DIMM 240-pin unbuffered
Many thanks,

Hello @speedstep,
I wonder if you could help me? I have an Optiplex 9020 USFF i5 2.9GHz with 8GB RAM, 120GB SSD, Win 10 x64 and Intel HD Graphics 4600.
Do you know if your solution above might work with this PC? I am keen to be able to play mainly RTS games so don't need a hugely powerful upgrade on the graphics card. I have seen varying comments on whether the external card might work but nothing definitive.
Many thanks in advance!
