Add memory to an Optiplex 3070
Hi all,
I wonder if you have seen this, or maybe you can suggest something:
I have a Dell Optiplex 3070 micro with Intel T9100 processor and 8GB of RAM.
I was looking to upgrade the memory. The memory that is now in it is one stick of Hynix HMA81GS6JJR8N-VK
So I bought an identical stick and added it to the system.
Unfortunately the PC doesn't boot and power button blinks amber 2 and 7 times. As per service manual the memory is the problem.
I then replaced the original RAM stick with the recently bought one and it works.
Basically both memory sticks work fine by themselves but not together.
Which obviously defeats the reason why I bought the second stick.
Specifications for the 3070 micro mention that there can be 2 sticks (2sticks of 8Gb each) so I am at a loss.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Yeah looks like dimm2 slot is bad.
Micro is like laptop you can install single ram in either slot and it should work.

When you say each memory works on its own, are both ram tested in the same dimm1 slot? If there is some unforeseen damage to dimm2 slot, then it would not work. Test the dell ram and new ram individually in dimm2 slot only and see if it still works.

Very valid point. I was under the impression that the first slot (DIMM1) needs to be populated first.
I tried both modules by themselves, separately, in DIMM2 slot and none works.
If you are saying that there is no rule on what slot the memory should be populated first then I am afraid the second slot has a damage and that's why it doesn't boot.
Oh well, if that's the case, I need to sell the 2 modules and buy a 16Gb and risk again.

I had this problem exactly the same diagnosis LED pattern both rams work on DIMM 2 but when either of them is placed on DIMM 2 the problems occurred. Someone from this community told me It might be a problem with the MB or with the memory controller in the CPU. I know MB was good so I checked the CPU since I frequently clean it. To my surprise, I see one bent connector, and carefully straightened it out. and both of my rams worked on both DIMM slots already.
