aux_pwr on, pc does not power on.

I have an Optiplex 160 that I disassembled for a drive replacement, I also took off the heat sink for both the CPU and the GPU.  After I reassembled everything, I plugged it in and pressing the power button no longer worked, but the aux_pwr led was green. What can I do other than replace the motherboard?

In this very old model, first replace cmos battery with a new cr2032, then clear cmos settings by motherboard RTCRST jumper.

wouldn't the machine be able to boot without the CMOS battery? I've also tried clearing the RTCRST jumper, but that hasn't worked.

The cmos battery just keeps cmos settings nonvolatile  when power is off.  If you remove cmos battery and drain off flea power, cmos goes to default settings.

this old model is not worth replacing motherboard. If you remove all memory does it power on and beep?  No beep is a bad sign.

it doesn't power on at all. No beep, no light on the power button. Only the light on the aux_pwr.
I don't think taking off the heat sinks could have caused this. It was working before. I don't know what I messed up.

Sometimes old mobo just goes bad without explanation what happened.  I changed heatsink of an old XPS that was working a few weeks back. Then it failed post completely.  I could not bring it back to life.  Consider these elderly cards which are very poor in health.  Not your fault if it died.
