Because of those pop ups and virus messages it would be very possible that you have an infected system. Not knowing which version of Windows you have installed I would suggest downloading a free anti virus such as Kaspersky Free and also Malwarebytes Free and AdAware Ad Block. Scan the system with all of them and see if the performance improves. Then when the system is clean you can start trying to improve performance. However keep in mind that you system is around 11 years old and not much that you could do would greatly increase performance. It could be time to consider a new system which would run much faster with far less aggravation.
