Computer Technisian
Hello,
Is it ok to use a PC/Laptop/AIO as a server? I want to use a Dell PC as a server for long periods of time (for many years) without shutting it down, is it a good option when it comes to stability and durability or should I buy a server? The main reason why I dont want to buy a sever is because it is more expensive, any regular PC can do the job, but I am concerned that the PC may fail after one or two years,

No, notebooks/All in ones and ordinary desktop PCs are not ideal servers. You may get by with a desktop PC, replacing it (or the components) as they fail, but you won't end up with a true server. And neither notebooks nor all in ones (which are essentially notebooks) are designed for 24/7 operation.

@ejn63 Thank you for your answer. My first question was regarding using AIO as a server, but many did not recommend it, and instead advised me to use a Desktop PC, so my concern in the second question was the Desktop durability compared to true servers. Thanks to you, I have now a solid idea of what should I buy and use. I am really grateful for your support dear friend,
