Dell 3070 Processor compatiblity

I have a dell 3070 SSF pc on advice from a good friend i installed a i7-8700 as was told it was compatible, i upgraded the bios first, now pc just keeps restarting, so wondering if advice was wrong.

 any help would be appreciated

try replace cmos battery and clear cmos settings via motherboard jumper.

inspect cpu socket closely for any bent pin.

hi looked at socket with strong magnifier, all pins seem ok, maybe the motherboard. would i need to upgrade bios and change the heat sink ? i did update the bios prior to buying the i7

no you do not need to update bios for that cpu.  you said you upgrade the bios prior to i7.  try putting the old cpu back carefully to verify that the board still posts.
