Dell Command Powershell Provider 2.10.0 - Cannot clear BIOS passwords
Hello,
We manage many Dell Optiplex systems (generally 3060/3070 and newer through the newest). For security, the BIOS of each system is password protected.
We have found that when attempting to update the systems to Microsoft's new UEFI SecureBoot certificates, it fails if the BIOS is password-protected. After doing research, the Dell Command Powershell Provider seemed to be the perfect solution to temporarily clear the BIOS password (we already have the password(s)) and set it again as part of our scripting. So I began testing and debugging.
Every time I try to issue the Clear command according to the documentation, I get this response:
Admin Password must contain minimum 4, and maximum 32 characters. Error occured in C:\Program
Files\WindowsPowerShell\Modules\dellbiosprovider\2.10.0\Clear-DellAdminPassword.ps1
I have confirmed that the StrongPassword setting is Disabled on the systems I am running this on, so that isn't the issue. I've tested both on my own system (an Optiplex 7010 running BIOS 1.33.0 (the latest), and this is what I got. It does not seem to happen every time, but it's distressing that it is not predictable, as the process we're using is extremely important. If someone here from Dell can provide some assistance it would be extremely helpful; I need to ensure this works consistently across several thousand systems.
