Are the speakers OK?  May sound like a dumb question, but its not.

Plug a headset into the Green speaker jack and see if you get audio in the headset.  If you do, it says there is a problem with the speakers or the cable that connects the speakers to the PC.

In addition, tip:  Find the speaker icon in Control Panel.  Put the shortcut on your desktop.  Open the window.  With either speakers or a headset plugged in, see the image of the item.  If it has a green checkmark by it, it should be operational on the PC end.  If no green checkmark, click on the image (and anything else you may have to), to make sure it's turned on.  I even had to click on things to hear through the speakers when recording.

Also, did you try the headphone jack in the front?
